Outdoor Worship

Looking like spring is finally arriving as we have experienced some slightly warmer temperatures. We hope to see you at outdoor worship this week!

Please note that registration is a two-step process
  1. REGISTER to help us for planning and logistics
  2. Note that there is a required Health Form that must be completed for any in-person gathering. You may click HERE to complete or the link will be displayed immediately after submitting worship registration. *Note that this is an updated form compared to the form used in the past.
Please also visit the OUTDOOR WEBPAGE to review requirements and guidelines. Praise Packs are available to help children connect and engage with the service.
Lent and Easter
We continue to make plans and adjust as needed to adapt to remain as COVID safe as possible. In addition to keeping up with the weekly e-blast, be sure to check out the Lent and Easter webpage to keep up to date with all that is happening with worship and other opportunities during Lent and Easter. The webpage will continue to be updated as details are firmed up and changed.

Journey to Easter
Daily During Lent

Watch the "Journey to Easter Invitation" to join SGUMC to journey through Lent arriving at an empty tomb on Easter Sunday with full hearts! Live Lenten Lunch on Wednesday's at 12:00 pm with our Director of Youth Ministries, Lauren Adkins, on Facebook. Look for posts every day from soup recipes to devotions and more in-between! 

Prayer and Gratitude Tree

Visit Shady Grove's Prayer and Gratitude Tree, near our digital sign, during Lent. Choose  a shade of purple and write your message to God and hang it with love on the tree.

Children's Lenten Offering for Heifer International

Children's Lenten offering will support Heifer International. Purchasing a cow or goat for milk, chickens for eggs, alpacas or llamas for wool, bees for honey, seeds for gardening, and more can change the lives of people around the world. The children's ministry is offering banks to gather coins and offering money. Children can bring these offerings to church on Palm Sunday. If you didn't have a chance to get a bank on Shrove Tuesday or Ash Wednesday, please contact Kate

Global Missions Sunday
March 14

Global Missions Sunday is fast approaching at Shady Grove. This is our special day to learn more and commit our support for the missionaries that we help to support around the world. This year is challenging in many ways and we are trusting in the Lord that we will be able to share His word around the world in partnership with our missionaries by continuing to support them financially and with our prayers. Please join us on March 14th to hear more about Global Missions at Shady Grove!

Cemetery Cleanup

We will be cleaning up arrangements in the cemetery the last week of March. We will be taking away any Christmas, seasonal or damaged arrangements. If you want to salvage any arrangements or containers from a family member’s gravesite, please do so by March 22nd. If you have any questions, please contact Chuck Noble at 396-5557. Thank you in advance for your help.

Geranium Sale

The United Methodist Urban Ministries of Richmond Auxiliary is selling geraniums to benefit Shalom Farms.
Cost of the plants are $4.50 each and come in red, hot pink, white and salmon in a 4" pot. Orders for specific colors will be taken into account, but are not guaranteed. Plants arrive Friday, April 9, 2021. Please make check payable to SGUMC.  Any questions or to order? Email Sandi Shriner

Westview on the James Summer Camp

Looking for summer camp? Be sure to check out the options for all ages at Westview on the James. In addition to mini camps for 6-9 year old's, resident camp for 7-14 year old's, and adventure camps for 14-16 year old's there are also opportunities for their counselor in training program. Several of our Shady Grove Youth Alumni have been counselors. Westview, a UMC Camp, is located on 780 acres of rolling hills and fields, including an 18-acre lake and 1 mile of riverfront, in Goochland.

Looking for an opportunity to keep children connected on Sunday mornings while continuing to learn? Here is a list of grade level opportunities along with the time they are joining together. 
  • 9:00-9:30 Kindergarten through 3rd grade (with breakout rooms) will be using Cokesbury's Celebrate Wonder curriculum     JOIN

Kids Connect with Games
Saturday, March 6, 6:30-7:30 pm

Children are encouraged to invite friends for this fun online opportunity to share in games and laughter! All ages are welcome. Be sure to register and a Zoom link will be emailed.

Camp Pray and Play
June 7-11(Ages 2-6)
July 12-16(Ages 3-rising 1st grade)
August 9-13(Ages 3-rising 1st grade)

Camp Pray and Play is offering three summer camps for ages two through rising first grade. Each fun themed camp (Polar Bear camp kit, Zoo Choo Choo, and Our Earth) presents the opportunity for children to experience God's love through Bible stories, music, games, crafts, silly skits, and more. Please see FLYER for additional details. The Book of Acts

The Walk

Ready to walk with Jesus during Lent? The Seekers Sunday School Class will study Adam Hamilton's The Walk. In his book, Hamilton focuses on five essential spiritual practices that are essential in Jesus’ own walk with God. Learn how to incorporate these practices in your daily walk, as well.

The Grace of Les Miserables

During our six weeks together, author and pastor Matt Rawle helps us dive into six ideals found in the story of Les Misérables - grace, justice, poverty, revolution, love, and hope. During our Lenten journey together, we will read our book, watch a video, and discuss how our faith is challenged by these calls to action in our world, in the name of Jesus.

Entering the Passion of Jesus

Join the Friday morning Women’s Bible Study to read and discuss Amy-Jill Levine’s book, Entering the Passion of Jesus. Levine writes, "This Lenten journey challenges us to examine our consciences and find out how deepening our relationship with Jesus and the Bible brings us into closer relationship with others and the world."

Altar Flower Calendar

The 2021 Altar Flower Calendar is now available for signing up to place flowers in memory, honor or celebration of a person or special milestone. We have a long standing community relationship with local florist Coleman Brothers which helps to keep cost at $22.00 for the flowers. You may sign up on REALM to select a date.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

For those needing God’s encouragement, Prayer Shawls are available to share. A shawl can be picked up either at worship the last Sunday of the month or at the church office during the week. EMAIL Dana or call the office to make arrangements to pickup at the office. Crafted with care and wrapped and bagged for safety, a prayer shawl is an expression of care for those in need of comfort and a reminder that they are in thoughts and prayers.

Baby Bundles

Baby Bundles are special bundles prayerfully created by our church family as a way to welcome new SGUMC babies with God's love. If you are interested in being part of this ministry or if you know of babies, please contact Kate Bishop, Polly Rowan, or Beth Lighthiser.
