SGUMC Youth Ministries
Weekly Update

Hello students and parents!

Thank you so much to all the individuals who have completed the communication and summer programming surveys. I am using them to consider how we can get our youth together in-person and online for the remainder of the summer. Please stay tuned to this Youth Update for any changes to programming!

I'm already taking some of the feedback into account. For example, from those that have responded, it seems like 3:00-5:00 pm is the time people would be MOST LIKELY to get together pretty much every single day. We do very little in that time window. I will be praying about and asking our Youth Council for their thoughts on shifting our programming times in this season of our shared experience of life and ministry. Not forever, just while we are in some weird, wild times. Your feedback is read, considered, and prayed about in this ministry. Please fill out the survey(s) so you can be better served! This is the last week they will be available.

Thank you to all the individuals who continue to work hard everyday to keep us safe, provide health care, and ensure our basic needs are met by working in public spaces. See boxes below regarding weekly programming, including an new cooking class with Elizabeth Kugel! Stay safe and love each other... from an appropriate distance!

My hope is that you have a safe, joyful, and connected July 4th holiday, whether you are at home, at work or at play.

With prayer and care,

Lauren Adkins
Director of Youth Ministry - SGUMC

Youth Surveys on Google Forms

Communications - Info and Preferences -  CLICK HERE

I would love to make double check that all our pieces of contact information on Realm and in MailChimp are correct. I am also researching adding text messaging back to our regular means of communication. Filling out this survey is the best way you can help SGUMC's Youth Ministry to serve you better! Please feel free to provide feedback about what works and what doesn't for you personally.

If you are a parent, please complete for yourself THEN go back and complete for your youth or send them the link and have them complete the survey on their own!

2020 Youth Summer Programming - Availability and Preferences - CLICK HERE

We usually experience less weekly programming in the summer at SGUMC in Youth Ministry due to the preparations for and time spent on missions trips, as well as, youth families traveling and summer camp experiences. However, this is not a normal summer.

Please answer the survey questions about your desire and availability to meet for youth programming in summer 2020. When do you want to get together? Where do you want to meet up? What do you want to do?

If you are a parent, great. I look forward to your feedback. If you are a youth, please give your feedback as well. I would like to hear from youth and parents! Parents, encourage your youth to fill out the survey.

Thank you, Elizabeth Kugel, for leading our first cooking on Zoom session! It was so fun, Elizabeth was a great teacher, and the banana bread was delicious.

2020 Summer Mission Trips

Our ministry partner Youth Works has cancelled all out of town trips for the summer of 2020, which include both Middle School and High School trips to Savannah, GA and Wilmington, NC respectively.

I am exploring MANY options with regarding to how we move forward in hands on mission opportunities in Richmond this July and how we move forward financially.

Look for a special Youth Update coming as soon  with full details regarding how we move forward in our relationship with Youth Works and what the options are financially. I thank you in advance for your patience and trust in working out what all this means in a uncertain and difficult time. I will not release information until there is a thoughtful and prayerfully considered plan.

Fundraising with Scrip and Kroger Cards
  • Gift Cards - Remember the SGUMC Youth Ministry Gift Card program for all your shopping needs!  You can purchase gift cards at face value and the youth ministry receives a percentage of the sale.  Click here for an order form or go to United Scrip website to see the many additional cards that can be ordered.
  • Gift Card Sales - Without the support of volunteers to assist on Sunday mornings, we may not be able to operate each week which can drastically affect funding of our youth ministry. Funds from these sales helps to keep our costs as low as possible for our youth ministry events like retreats and mission trips.  Please click HERE to select your date.
  • Register your Kroger Plus card to benefit the Youth Ministry by clicking here for the steps to register.
