"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."Psalm 139:13 (NIV)
Just as God lovingly handcrafted each of us, so too are the gifts our knitting ministry creates - each one-of-a-kind item is hand-knitted or crocheted for others in an effort to spread God's warm embrace. We provide tangible examples of God's hope, love and comfort - prayer shawls and lap blankets for those going through difficult times of illness, grief, depression or crisis; hats and scarves to those who need warmth and protection; and baby blankets and hats for God's most precious of creations. We can also provide gifts as a thank-you to someone who has supported one of us in times of crisis or just for the joy of creating something special for a loved one. When completed, the group says a prayer of blessing for the recipient.
Not only do we get together to knit for others, but knitting in fellowship with others helps the crafter too. Knitting is therapeutic in that the rhythmic repetitive movements instill a sense of calmness quite similar to mindfulness. And knitting with supportive friends is always a source of education and motivation!
We meet the last Thursday of every month (taking December off), rotating between members' homes, to knit together and support one another. Don’t knit? We'll be happy to teach you or you can still join the group and support through prayer or making fringe for the shawls. Know how to crochet but not knit? We welcome crocheters!
If you know of any person or group who can benefit from a hand-knitted or crocheted gift or gifts, please contact us.
